Wiper party has harshly dismissed Thursday's decision to dewhip Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula of the leader of the minority in the Senate.
16 ODM senators signed a petition to oust theFord Kenya leader from the prestigious position on grounds that the Raila Odinga led party had a majority in the house and that Mr Wetangula lacked the required audacity to lead the Opposition in parliament.
But the move received a backlash first from Mr Wetangula himself and a group of MPs drawn from the defunct Western province.
Through its official Twitter page, the Kalonzo Musyoka led party scorned ODM's pride.
Wiper stated: "Wiper strongly REFUTES @TheODMparty move to remove Moses Wetangula as Leader of Minority."
On Thursday Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka told the house of a move by ODM to replace the Ford Kenya party leader, as Senate Minority leader, with his Siaya counterpart James Orengo.
Lusaka said he had received a letter from Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni) informing him of the decision.Sixteen ODM Senators – a majority of Opposition lawmakers in the Senate- signed the petition to eject Wetang’ula.
However, Lusaka told the Opposition coalition to ensure that it follows proper procedures in electing Orengo before the appointment becomes official.
“The removal of Wetang’ula, though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect until a Senator is elected by the coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1),” Lusaka said.
