Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made a passionate appeal to Siaya Senator James Orengo.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday shortly after holding the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Kalonzo condemned ODM senators for ousting Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula as the Senate Minority leader.
Kalonzo urged Orengo to decline his nomination to take over Wetangula’s position, arguing that the move could lead to the collapse of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
"I don't want my friend Orengo to be the one to go down in history as the one who collapsed NASA. My appeal to him is that he should decline the nomination," said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo further said that they had requested NASA CEO Norman Magaya to write to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka informing him that Wetangula remains the duly nominated Senate minority leader.
This comes after 19 senators on Tuesday unanimously voted out Wetangula, replacing him with Orengo.
The Ford Kenya party has however rejected the ouster, arguing that Wetangula can only be removed by the NASA summit which is made up of the four principals.
"We are not aware of any removal of our party leader as the minority leader in Senate. He can only be removed by NASA summit and no such position or action has been taken,” said Ford Kenya deputy party leader Boni Khalwale.
