The union of Deputy William Ruto and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be one of the greatest blows to Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. Ruto and Joho have been at loggerheads for some time but there are no permanent enemies in politics.
With the support of Uhuru and Joho, Ruto stands a better chance of beating Kalonzo in the 2022 presidential race if the current political situation is anything we can go by. Joho commands a lot of support at the Coastal region.
The firebrand governor has been lamenting that the current regime has sidelined Coastal residents. Historical land injustices are among the things Joho wants to be addressed. The former vice president will be in more trouble if Joho convinces his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi to join him in decamping to Jubilee.
The Coastal region’s politics will shift overnight. The Deputy President will have an easy task ascending to power if such a political shift occurs.
Ruto is known to play his cards smart. The DP has managed to calm the political storm in his backyard. The defection of Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto was among the greatest wins of Ruto.
