The two had been charged at the ICC with various counts following the 2007/2018 post-election violence.

The Ukambani political kingpin claimed that he wanted the leaders to back his leadership since they would be away.

"He told us, 'Gentlemen, why can’t you allow me to become the president. In any case, you will be in jail for 10 years after which, when you come back, I will be through with being the president and then you can take over from there,” Ruto said.

Ruto added that he was aware it was not going to be easy as Kalonzo thought.

The two leaders decided to leave his home after the disagreement.

He went on: “How does that sound, now that Kalonzo decided to bring out this thing? I was not going to say it, but now that he said it…, that is why we left his house in a hurry because we realized we are not dealing with a friend,” Ruto added.

Kalonzo and Ruto were not in good terms until recently when they decided to forgive each other.
