Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has defended ODM party leader Raila Odinga over claims by Jubilee MPs of double speak on matters corruption.Kaluma said he was shocked by a story in the local dailies insinuating that it is Raila's duty to fight corruption saying his party leader was doing so because he cares about the ordinary Kenyans.
"I am shocked that the headlines of all the daily newspapers are giving an idea that it is Raila's duty to fight corruption, something that he has decided to do out of gratitude," Kaluma told Citizen Tv's Power Breakfast show.
Kaluma said it is the role of the national government, with the help of constitutional bodies, that are charged with the fight against corruption at both the county and national levels saying the authorities have the right to investigate anybody.
"In the statement Raila made in Kilifi, he said the instruments for fighting corruption are with the national government, they are not devolved. He also said he will not condone any corruption, whether at the national or county level. If it is Raila who is corrupt, let the government use the instruments it has to bring him to book," he explained.
The legislator also insisted that Raila was the best candidate in the fight against corruption and would do much better than President Uhuru Kenyatta if given the chance.
"What is double speak in Raila's statement in Kilifi? His statement shows he can fight corruption better than the current President," Kaluma said.
