Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has called for the arrest and prosecution of all police officers who carry out injustices during their operations.
Kaluma accused the police of being notorious when it comes to being brutal while conducting their operations.
Speaking during Citizen TV's morning show on Friday, Kaluma said the Bill of Rights was meant to protect Kenyans and all officers should adhere to the rights of all citizens as the law demands.
He further added that the police were supposed to ensure the safety of the citizens and it was unethical for them to do otherwise.
"We cannot have the Bill of Rights in the constitution when what the police officers do is to violate them. This has become a notorious trend in the police force and this should be brought to an end. The police should provide security to the people and it is ironical when the same officers are accused of brutality during their operations. All police officers found to have committed any violation of the Bill of Rights should be prosecuted," Kaluma said.
This comes after reports emerged that the ongoing operation to recover stolen guns and ammunition from Booker police post in Mumias town, Kakamega County.
The GSU officers conducting the search for the stolen guns have been accused of brutality, with cases of assault and rape being reported.
Seven G3 rifles and 180 bullets were stolen early Tuesday morning when an unknown gang stormed the police post and attacked the only officer manning the station at the time, before making away with the loot.
