Former cabinet Minister Prof. Margaret Kamar has donated land for the construction of Kosyin Youth Polytechnic in Uasin Gishu County.
Putting up of the polytechnic will be funded by the Social Fund for Development from the French Embassy, Government of Kenya and Rafiki Ya Maisha Foundation.
The project targets to equip local youths with technical and vocational skills with the aim of improving their chances of getting employment.
Speaking during the inauguration of the institution, French Ambassador to Kenya Remi Marechaux said the project was part of French government’s support toward instilling technical and vocational training to Kenyan youth especially from rural areas.
Already infrastructure is in place in readiness for formal opening of the institution.
Among the courses to be offered will include: Food technology, fashion design, ICT, entrepreneurship, hairdressing.
Plans to start an accounting programme are underway.
