Uasin Gishu county government has been urged to put more money in development rather than paying salaries.

Senator Margaret Kamar said according to the constitution county governments are supposed to put 70 percent of their money on development while 30 percent should be used to pay salaries.

“Currently Uasin Gishu county government is using 42.9 percent on salaries and 58 percent on development. MCA should look for ways to harmonize staff salaries,” she said at Uasin Gishu County Assembly, Thursday.

“If the county will spend more money on development there will be the creation of more job opportunities, therefore, cases of joblessness among the youths will be a thing of the past,” she added.

She, however, advised the county assembly to have a good working relationship with the county government for them to deliver to the electorate.

“Unnecessary completion and which hunt will not help the electorate instead will worsen the situation, projects will only be implemented if there is a good working relationship,” noted Kamar.
