Safaricom's Chief Financial Officer Sateesh Kamath has taken over at the company temporarily after CEO Bob Collymore went on leave.
According to the company, Kamath will execute most of Collymore's duties and "take a primary role” in running the company in his absense.
On the other hand, Director of Strategy and Innovation Joseph Ogutu “will be responsible for Safaricom’s day-to-day operations until Mr Collymore’s return from medical leave”.
In a statement, Safaricom chairman Nicholas Ng'ang'a said the CEO "has started medical leave to receive specialised treatment for a number of months” but did not specify the exact duration.
Kamath has years of experience in both emerging and mature markets for telecoms, FMCG and manufacturing.
