The Akamba community has now a spokesperson in Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
Mutua, the Maendeleo Chap Chap leader, was unveiled in an event that was attended by thousands at Machakos People’s Park on Saturday.
The elders said Mutua was best suited to become the community spokesman due to his development record in the last four years as the Machakos Governor.
Mutua said he was ready to take over the mantle of speaking on behalf of the Kamba nation.
“It is such a great honour and I don't take for granted the faith and trust they have in me to lead you now and going forward,” he stated.
The over 23,000 elders and leaders drawn from Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kwale and Taita Taveta counties, also urged Mutua to seek the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
They vowed to stand solidly behind his leadership as the head of MCC party and Governor of Machakos County.
“I accept with humility the endorsement from you leaders that I become the region’s presidential candidate come the 2022 polls. Therefore, I assure you that I will remain committed to the unrelenting struggle for the realisation of economic growth in our counties and country, Kenya,” Mutua pledged.
The event was attended by women, youth leaders, professionals and clergy drawn from the larger Ukambani region.
Also in attendance were MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala ), Robert Mutemi (nominated) and hundreds of MCC party aspirants.
