Kilifi governor hopeful Kazungu Kambi has hit out at the incumbent, Amason Kingi, for allegedly referring to him as a political puppet and sycophant.
Kambi said he is not anyone’s sycophant, adding that Kingi is diverting attention instead of dealing with the integrity and accountability issues facing him.In an interview with the Standard, Kambi said Governor Kingi is afraid of the August 8 general election and is allegedly using dirty tactics to remain relevant.“Let Kingi know that his days as governor are numbered and no matter how much time he spends spreading propaganda he will still go home,” said Kambi.The former CS stated that Kilifi people cannot be fooled any more, adding that time to liberate the county has come.He said leaders who have failed to push for development must be edged out on August 8.Kambi urged his supporters to remain firm and shun propaganda being peddled by his rivals.The governor hopeful who is vying on a Kadu Asili party ticket maintained that he is the best bet for Kilifi people.On Monday during a rally in Ganze, Governor Kingi asked residents to reject Kambi and Kilifi North MP Gideon Munga’ro’s bid for the governor seat.Governor Kingi, who is seeking re-election on an ODM Party ticket said the two have nothing to offer locals.“Don’t endorse people who are sycophants and puppets of Jubilee,” he said.The Kilifi governor race is getting tougher with only 40 days left to the August 8 polls.Kambi and Mung’aro are seeking to send Kingi home. The former Labour CS is vying on Kadu Asili Party while Mung’aro is contesting on a Jubilee Party ticket.
