The organisation, Kamenu CBO, is also targeting to offer free guidance and counselling to a similar number of girls leaving class eight.

Speaking at Kamenu Primary School on Tuesday, the CBO's founder Esther Mueni said that the exercise which will be conducted at Thika School for The Blind is aimed at instilling a positive behaviour change among the adolescents.

"We have noted that some of these queer behaviours we are seeing with our high school children is largely because of poor mentorship when they were transitioning from childhood to adolescence," said Mueni.

She said that boys will stay for ten days due to the circumcision procedure while girls will be there for five days.

"After the whole thing we will follow the participants thereafter to ensure they do not go astray along the way. Continuous mentorship is essential," she said.

For now, Mueni said, the CBO will continue lobbying various primary schools and parents in the area to take their children for the exercise noting that it was of utmost importance.
