The exercise that is slotted to take place on Friday and Saturday next week is meant to rid the area of garbage, clear drainages as well as clear thickets around residential areas.

"This exercise will be voluntary and we are requesting those who will be available to avail themselves at Makongeni dispensary from 9am on Friday and Saturday. We can be able to keep our estates clean and habitable by our own efforts," Hussein said at Makongeni shopping centre on Thursday.

Hussein noted that the last time a clean up was carried out in the area earlier this year, the place became neat and presentable.

"Everybody liked the results of the last clean up and that is what we want to repeat," she said.

The MCA has on several occasions attributed the perennial flooding problem in the area to blocked drainages as a result of reckless disposal of garbage. She said that the clean up will be extended to other neighbouring estates in the ward at a date to be announced later.
