Muthoni has said that the garbage that has continued to pile since last year's infamous burning of the market poses a great health hazard to those living nearby.

"The garbage is a great health risk to residents and even those doing business at the market," said Muthoni in Makongeni on Wednesday.

The MCA says that the situation is a complicated one seeing that the county government is barred by a court order from interfering with the market.

This is a result of a case at the High Court where the market traders challenged the county government plan to relocate them to nearby Kang'ooki area.

On the other hand, the MCA notes, the traders have no ability to clear the garbage which has now remained uncollected for several months.

This has led to a foul smell of rotten market refuse to engulf the area and the surrounding estates.

Meanwhile, Muthoni has asked the county government to crack the whip on garbage collectors who have been dumping garbage in undesignated areas near Kang'ooki dumpsite.

"These careless garbage collectors are endangering the lives of several people in Kiganjo, Kisii and Makongeni estates with this reckless dumping. Let the county authorities do something about it," said Muthoni.
