Speaking at Kamenu trading centre, the MCA said that drug and substance abuse is one of the major challenges facing the youths in the area.

Hussein further indicated that youths are abusing drugs out of desperation, since they lack employment opportunities.

“Our young people are being consumed by drugs and other evil activities, we need to work together to clear drugs from our streets and curb the situation,” she said.

Hussein revealed that she is working with other leaders to find solutions to the drug abuse problem, adding that awareness campaigns will be started across the ward to sensitise the youths on the effects of drug abuse.

The ward representative called on the youths to devote their time and take part in activities that will improve their lives, further urging the youths to take advantage of government opportunities and improve their lives.

She said that the money being given by the government to youths will help to reduce unemployment, which has been hard to deal with.

The MCA also called on the county government to take seriously matters concerning young people, noting that they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Hussein said that she and other leaders are working with the County Youths department, to make sure that the welfare of young people is catered for.
