Boda Boda operators in Kamwangi township of Gatundu North Sub-County have benefited from sheds constructed by the area Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking on Sunday evening after opening the sheds at Kamwangi-Thika stage, area MP, Francis Kigo Njenga said he will continue to empower the operators to ensure they are able to support their families.
"Bodaboda operators are often left out of the development initiatives despite being engaged in an economic activity that generates income for the youth. We hope these sheds will cushion our riders from harsh weather especially during the ongoing rains," he said.
Njenga said the area CDF will be used to build several sheds in other stages to enable the bodaboda riders to operate in a conducive environment.
The politician noted that most youth were ready to venture into income generating activities to support themselves and their families but lack startup capital and urged them to apply for funding from the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.
He also urged the youth to take advantage of the empowerment programs the government has set up for them while calling upon the leadership of Kiambu County to mobilise resources and assist the youth form groups.
"These sheds are meant to protect us as bodaboda operators from harsh sunlight, wind and rainfall while waiting for our customers," said James Muraya, the bodaboda operators' representative who lauded the offer.
