Residents of Gatundu North sub county have been urged to take Early Child Development Education (ECDE) seriously as a way of giving children a good educational foundation.

Speaking from her office earlier on Friday in Kamwangi, the sub county deputy education officer Madam Catherine Nyawira said that the government had good policies which are geared towards ensuring that nursery school education is taken seriously right from the early days.

She regretted that early child education had been neglected by some residents for a long time adding that the majority have ignored it whereby some opt to take their children to class one without the basic education.

The education officer on another note regretted over the rate of the girl child’s school dropouts at both primary and secondary level in the area advising parents to take their responsibility of instilling good morals to their children seriously.

"Parents must arise and condemn early school dropouts. Without basic level education and moral values instilled in our children, every aspect that deters development will continue ruling our economy. Take children to church, sit with them and lecture them where necessary," she urged parents.

She called on the Kiambu county government to also ensure the timely delivery of its support and education pledges.
