Residents of Kangawa village in Kuresoi North constituency, Nakuru are now calling on the government to speed up development projects in the area.
They also claim the area has been neglected for decades.
The area was greatly affected by the post election skirmishes of 2007 hence the slow development.
A spot check shows the area needs urgent address on roads, mobile network and insecurity.
According to Peter Njoroge, a resident of the area for more than 20 years, the nearest health facility that serves residents of Kangawa is Molo sub-county hospital located more than 30 kilometers away.
“In this era of devolution more health facilities ought to be built in order to take services closer to the people. We travel long distance to access health services from Molo sub-county hospital located more than 30 kilometers away,” he said.
This is contrary to the recent task force report on the state of health sector in Nakuru which revealed that the county has many underutilized health centres and dispensaries which were built during Kinuthia Mbugua era.
Further, the task force recommended that no more facilities be set up but instead the existing ones be equipped.
Kangawa is one of the most productive areas of Kuresoi North.
The ambitious last mile electricity connectivity program initiated by the government is yet to be felt in the area.
It is as a result of this that locals have called on the government to ensure resources are distributed equally.
Governor Lee Kinyanjui who has since initiated the Boresha barabara programme in all the 55 wards has said that the program will go a long way in improving transportation in rural areas.
The program has since been launched in Mau Narok and Waseges wards.
Acting CeC for Roads, Works and Infrastructure Eng. Lucy Kariuki has said that locals will be given the first priority as the program is rolled out in other areas.2
