Addressing the press at his office yesterday, the MP sad that youths have been given enough opportunities to take part in development.

The lawmaker intimated that the government has recognised the role of young in development through allocation of development funds.

“The youth should take advantage of the government initiatives and support development. Uwezo fund and the 30 per cent tender for youths saying they are programmes that will empower the youth,” he said.

He added, “Empowering youths, women and disabled persons is a gateway to realisation of development. But there is still much to be done especially on the rising unemployment.”

Maweu appealed to the government to partner with the private sector and investors in order to tame unemployment.

He observed that many young people are getting depressed and taking part in crime because they have no jobs.

Maweu urged the Machakos county government to implement policies that will support job creation.
