Kisii County Council officers have been accused of demanding double revenue collections.
According to traders, the officers come one after the other and demand revenues from traders before they operate their businesses in the market.
"The officers come in shifts to collect revenue. When we issue the receipts we had been issued with earlier by other officers, they claim that the receipts are false and the officer who issued the receipts is not allocated to collect revenue at that particular business area. We are left with no option rather than to pay the revenue twice," said Henry Nyanducha a trader.
The traders are now in doubt since they could be feeding people's families as theirs are left suffering.
"We have a right to operate our businesses in the market. Even if it is legal to pay revenues before operating in the market, we need an answer as to why the officers demand double revenues from us. Daily we are required to pay Sh30 to operate but due to double revenue collection we pay Sh60 and Sh90 at times to operate," argued Wilkister Nyamoko.
She added that the officers at times threaten to send them away from their business places if they fail to pay the revenue.
