KANU party has called on the Ministry of Environment to formulate good policies that will ensure balance is achieved between afforestation and human social economic development.
The party’s women congress said that as much as it supports government efforts in conserving forests, the ministry should also consider the economic well being of those who rely on timber for survival.
Speaking after attending a training workshop in Nakuru, the congress through their spokesperson Lucy Kamira said the Ministry of Environment needs to come up with policies that will be favorable to both the loggers and the government’s efforts to conserve the forest cover.
“Our party development policy endeavors to promote economic and development and subsequently eradicate poverty and it is in this regard that we appeal to the ministry of environment to employ best practice and the management of forests and logging to achieve a balance between afforestation and human social economic development,” said Kamira.
