KANU Secretary General Nick Salat has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to bury their political differences and forge ahead on a path that shall unite the country in honor of late Bishop Cornelius Korir.
Speaking at Segutiet Catholic Church in Bomet during the prayers held for the Bishop, Salat said the standoff in the country can only be solved if the rival sides toned down their firm talks and seek a common ground.
"Bishop Korir wanted unity and the only thing President Kenyatta and NASA leader can give him as he is laid to rest is to come together and bury their political difference so that the country is not divided further, “ said Salat.
The KANU leader’s calls for unity come at a time when the opposition leader has sought for the formation of an interim government involving the two sides; Jubilee and NASA for at least six months to enable talks as the only way to avert possible chaos.
“They should embrace one another and show the country that despite political difference we are one because Bishop Korir always wanted to see a united Kenya," said Mr. Salat.
NASA leader Raila Odinga recently cautioned against having President Kenyatta sworn in at a time the country is divided with many Kenyans opting not to recognise his re-election in controversial elections whose outcome has been challenged in court.
