Independence party Kanu has refuted claims it has joined the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) led by Raila Odinga.
Secretary General Nick Salat who featured prominently in anti-IEBC campaigns by Cord has distanced the party from any possible coalition with Cord, saying it was ready to field its own candidates come 2017.
Salat was speaking on Saturday at Muchungui area in Baringo, during the home coming ceremony for Dr Stanley Rotich, the first person from the Edorois community to attain a PhD.
The Kanu leader was accompanied by Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi.
Salat explained that when the party joined Raila's Cord for the anti-IEBC demos in Nairobi, it never meant that Kanu was ready for any merger.
He said they only took part in the protests because reformation of IEBC was in the best interest of Kenyans.
The Kanu Secretary General supported calls for a fresh audit of the voters’ register before the next general election.
He warned that if that is not done, rigging could be rampant in 2017 polls.
Governor Cheboi said he still backed the ruling Jubilee Party, dismissing calls from a section of leaders to join Kanu.
