Leaders from the Kenya Africa National Union (Kanu) party have criticised the manner in which Jubilee party conducted its nominations, Friday.

The highly anticipated primaries were marred with delays, chaos, tension and confusion forcing the party’s election board to call off the whole exercise.

The leaders have now challenged president Uhuru Kenyatta’s party to bench-mark Kanu on how to carry out peaceful primaries.

Speaking in West Pokot county while giving out nomination certificates to a number of aspirants who emerged victorious in the Saturday polls, senator John Lonyangapuo said Kanu held peaceful primaries, noting that the party had put in place measures to prevent any chaotic scenes.

“We do not need to shed blood so that we can elect credible leaders. Jubilee has ashamed the country and the President. They need to come and learn from the independent party before holding the primaries,” said Lonyangapuo.

“They need to learn on how to conduct the elections before holding them. We do not want to see what happened on Friday repeated,” he added.

He however noted that despite the shambolic elections witnessed, Kanu was still firm with its decision to support the re-election of president Uhuru.

“Kanu still supports the President’s re-election bid despite the chaos witnessed. The mess witnessed cannot force us to change our stand. We shall support the President,” added Lonyangapuo.

Former cabinet Minister Samuel Poghisio, asked aspirants who felt their democratic rights were dishonored to join the Gideon Moi-lead party.

“This is an independent party and we shall welcome those who want to join us,” said Poghisio.
