Pictures of Baringo senator Gideon Moi receiving presidents who were to attend Uhuru's inauguration sparked great chatter on social media.
Many saw the development through the prism of 2022 succession politics.
KANU secretary-general, Nick Salaat, dismissed speculation that it was all about positioning Gideon Moi to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He termed Gideon's reception of dignitaries as normal.
''It is not the first time that he has received foreign dignitaries and presidents because it depends on the dignitaries who they prefer. Uhuru's second term will be about legacy. KANU is happy to help shape that legacy. I don't think the president would want to entertain anybody who wants to immediately talk about succession politics. I think the most important thing that the president would want is to find a team that would help him shape his legacy.'' Salaat said.
In the build-up to the August 8 elections, KANU sent mixed signals, supporting NASA at one point and later joining Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee.
The president assured KANU that it would be part of his second-term government during the campaign.
