The former ruling party Kanu has started a recruitment drive in Nakuru targeting youths in the county.
The party targets to recruit more than half a million members in the drive to popularise itself.
Party's youth interim chairman Sam Gitau said they were tired of the youth being sidelined in the existing parties and hence could not be involved in serious decision making.
They are also targeting youth groups from the grassroots in bid to win more support.
“We have been in political parties, used as political tools and later dumped. As youth we have not been given opportunities to prove ourselves, claiming that were are not equipped with experience to participate actively in governance of political parties,” he added.
They were speaking during a meeting at Midlands Hotel on Wednesday where they challenged the government to create more awareness of the party among youths.
“We have embarked on a serious campaign on social media. We have a twitter account with almost 300 followers, a data base of 2,000 members. We are also in the process of creating a party website in bid to attract more people to the party,” said Jackline Chebet, Kanu interim vice chair.
She added that they would hold a Nakuru County Kanu youth football tournament which will be used as a platform to recruit more members and also sell the party's agenda.
