Nakuru’s Kanu Street is a unique and the most famous streets in the county for many reasons.
It is the longest street in Nakuru, stretching over 1.8km long.
The vibrant street is considered as Nakuru’s red light street because of the many call girls who line up the street during the day and night ready to serve many willing male customers who frequent the street.
Located outside the CBD, Kanu Street is also considered as the town’s beer Belt Street and boasts of over 200 bars.
James Mwangi, a bar owner on the street says many bar owners opted to set business along the street booming flesh business.
“The major businesses along this street are bars, butcheries and lodgings as well as the taxi business and this is because of the flesh business that is booming here,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi added that lodgings along the street are always full because of the huge number of men who visit to get the services of what he called the cheap call girls.
“Most men who come here are from the other side of town and they feel safe here because they are likely not to be spotted by someone who knows them,” he said
“The call girls who operate here are cheap because you can get one for as low as Ksh 500 and lodging at Ksh 300 and this makes KANU street a choice for many men,” he added.
