The former ruling party Kanu now wants a meeting involving stakeholders convened to discuss how to ensure the next general election is free and fair.

This was revealed on Sunday by the party’s secretary general Nick Salat.

According to Salat, the government has the responsibility to bring together all stakeholders to discuss help avert violence during the electioneering period.

‘The government is fooling Kenyans and we will not allow that. There are no proper checks and balances to achieve an independent electoral body. We stand as a party to differ with this. That is why we demand that all political parties must be represented in the meeting,’ said Salat.

‘I call upon the Jubilee government under the rulership of President Uhuru Kenyatta to call a meeting of all political parties to discuss how to manage credibility issues affecting the Judiciary and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. The issue is very serious and if not well handled, it can result in further problems,’ he added.

Salat, however, maintains that the IEBC should be disbanded since it lacks credibility.

Kanu has been pushing for the disbandment of the commission since the conclusion of Kericho senatorial by-election.
