KANU party Women Congress has decried the low number of women participating in politics.
They called on women across the country to come out and participate fully in issues affecting the country.
Speaking in Nakuru on Saturday during a meeting attended by members from different counties, the leaders said women in Kenya are still under-represented in decision making as evident in low number of women in parliaments.
In a statement read by Lucy Kabira, who was a contestant for the Women Rep in Vihiga county, they said it was still a challenge for Kenya to meet the constitutional threshold of 2/3 gender rule owing to the fact that very few women have been appointed to government positions.
"We appeal to the president His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta to consider more women in future appointments," they said in a statement.
The KANU women congress vowed to continue supporting all mechanisms that are geared towards ensuring girls and women get their rights.
Grace Karuga , who run for the Nakuru county Women Rep, said women must ensure have a voice in decisions affecting the country.
"There has been a negative notion that women are not supposed to be active in political leadership but we are telling women to stand up for their rights," she said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Maryann Njambi who said they will work with other women organizations to champion the rights of women.
