ODM chairman John Mbadi has downplayed Kanu's move to support Jubilee’s re-election, saying it never came as a bombshell to Nasa.
He said the move was anticipated following the visit by First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta and her son Uhuru, to former president Daniel arap Moi’s home.
“We were not surprised that Kanu decided to join Jubilee,” Mbadi said, during a television interview.
“You can follow the developments in the past few weeks, starting with the former visit by the former First Lady to the former president Daniel Moi, then Uhuru. At least we knew something was coming,'' he added.
However, the Suba MP was quick to note that Kanu’s decision to back president Uhuru may affect Nasa, depending on how it carries out its campaigns.
“I wouldn’t come here and pretend that by Kanu failing to join us that it is not a big deal. If they joined us we would be more happy but to whether it is going to affect us that depends on how we conduct our campaigns,” Mbadi said, Thursday evening.
Kanu resolved to support Uhuru’s re-election bid after a closed-door meeting that lasted more than five hours.
The meeting was attended by party chairman Gideon Moi, secretary general Nick Salaat, nominated senator Zipporah Kittony and West Pokot senator John Lonyangapuo among other National Executive Council (NEC) members.
