National Cohesion and Intergration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has cautioned politicians against proclaiming total number of votes they hope to garner in the August 8, general election.
This follows sentiments by both Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance (Nasa) with each camp saying they have the numbers to beat each other.
According to Kaparo, Nasa claims it is 10 million votes strong, while Jubilee says it will beat the opposition with 12.5 million votes.
The NCIC boss noted the figures produced by the two sides were unrealistic since they add upto 22.5 million yet according to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the total number of registered voters is 19 million votes.
Speaking, Wednesday, he questioned where the extra 3.5 million votes would come from assuming no registered voter dies between now and August 8, and all the electorates turn out on the voting date.
Kaparo said such utterances during this electioneering period would lead to voters rejecting the poll outcome as they are given predetermined results that they expect in August.
“Such remarks may result in violence. We cannot afford such. We call upon leaders to issue remarks that do not spike emotions,” said Kaparo.
