Two Administration Police officers who were injured during a shootout with bandits at Kapedo have been transferred from Nakuru General Hospital to Nairobi.
The two, Livingstone Karuga, 30, and Erick Mugendi, 28, have been moved so they can receive for specialised treatment after sustaining serious injuries in the shoot-out. A third officer, Francis Mathai who suffered gunshots wounds, was taken to theatre and is currently admitted at the Rift valley General hospital.
“The three were brought at midnight in serious condition. They were however admitted and are now out of danger,” said Florence Ngoya, the Nursing officer in-charge.
She added that Mathai bled a lot and the medics were forced to transfuse blood before the operation was conducted.
One of the officers described the situation at Kapedo as volatile. He said that they were surrounded by armed bandits while escaping on board on a lorry on a normal patrol duties.
“The attackers hid in the bush and shot at us randomly. Tthe escape was miraculous as the attackers had overpowered my colleagues,” said Mathai.
Mathai’s relatives said that they were informed about the attack by a Kenya Red Cross staff who called his wife.
