Kapseret residents in Uasin Gishu County have protested against the construction of a bypass in the area.

Residents accused Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) of not involving them before they start the construction of the bypass.

On Tuesday, while speaking at Kapseret, the residents said they should be compensated because the agency planted beacons in their private residence.

“There are no plans to compensate us. Kenya National Highways Authority has trespassed at our homes without our consent,” said Nicholas Rono.

Rono added that residents will not allow the agency to start the construction works until negotiations are done for them to receive compensation.

“We have been waiting for is negotiation on compensation because the government assured us that we will be compensated before the bypass construction starts. Negotiation must take place before the project start,” he noted.
