“We underestimated the quantity of the rains. Most of our lands were swept away by Wednesday evening’s heavy rains which pounded this area,” said Jacinta Njeri a farmer.

Njeri said that her one acre land which she had planted was washed away and now she is looking for some other seeds to plant.

John Mwai said that he was unable to control the amount of water that was flowing in his farm.

“It just came and swept all the soil in the farm leaving only silt. All the money I invested in fertiliser and in tilling the land has gone to waste,” said Mwai.

Kimani Muigai blames the area drainage system as the main cause of the overflow.

"Most of the culverts were already full hence over flowing to our farms,” says Muigai.

Two weeks ago heavy rains swept more than 20 houses in the area.

Residents are now appealing to the county government to give proper control of water in the area.
