Residents of Kaptembwa in Nakuru West sub-county have raised concerns over an increase in fake witchdoctors in the area.

Addressing media at Soko Mjinga on Wednesday after a botched incident in the area, the residents said such incidents have been on the increase and investigation should be done to know the motive of thw sorcerers.

The residents claim many of the incidents involving witchdoctors are stage managed.

“It was in the morning when we saw this young man leave the plot but when he came back he had a rotting meat tied around his hands to fool people that his hand was rotting due to theft incident he involved in and that a witchdoctor was behind the rot,” said one of the residents.

According to Kanglos Aringo who is a neighbor, the drama involved two young men who claimed to have stolen Sh70, 000 from their mother.

The woman then told neighbors she will go to a witchdoctor to have the two punished.

Aringo said that after some time, the young men came back with one claiming he had been bewitched and his hand was now rotting.

This scenario left the residents surprised and it is upon intervention that they realized the young man’s hand was not rotting but had tied a rotting meat around.

“We have never seen such a thing,” said Aringo.

The incident attracted a huge crowd that police had to use teargas to disperse them as the young men plus the woman who claimed to be their mother were taken to Kaptembwa police station.
