The aggrieved residents said there was a great risk of children and adults contracting waterborne diseases as sewerage waste was mixing with piped water.

“It is a shame because we continue to pay taxes for services, but nothing is forthcoming," said Julius Tonui, a resident.

"Nakuru County government ought to have fixed the issue of sewerage system and the drainage.”

The residents lamented over the lack of clean water for drinking, a situation which they said has forced them to resort to using unsafe water from Ndarugu river.

They called upon area MP Samuel Arama to consider establishing  water projects in the area so as to save them from possible health hazards that can cause death.

Sarah Kwamboka, a mother of four, said she has been using a lot of money in seeking medical treatment due to infection one of her children contracted due to the unsafe water.

“I have been forced to use a lot of money to treat my son who became ill after drinking the unsafe water,” said Kwamboka.

This comes amid the Sh700 million project funded by the World Bank in collaboration with the government of Kenya which targets improvement of roads, drainage systems and street lighting at informal settlements.

According to the Millennium development Goals (MDGs) set 15 years ago, Kenya is among the developing countries which are yet to realise attainment of access to clean and affordable water to its citizens.
