Nakuru deputy governor Joseph Ruto has challenged Kaptembwo youths to take advantage of the Uwezo Funds being dished out by the government and start business enterprises instead of abusing alcohol and engaging in other unlawful acts.

Speaking at Rhonda estate on Sunday, the Nakuru deputy governor said youths have a chance to improve on their lives only if they apply for the government funds.

Ruto urged youths to apply for the funds and stop wasting time taking part in crime and alcohol abuse.

He said the government is ready to empower youths but said the youths too must help themselves by applying for the development funds.

“I urge youths and other marginalised groups in this area to apply for government money and start business,” he said.

Ruto said the Uwezo Funds have benefited many groups across the county and that it will be unfair if Rhonda youths are left out.

Meanwhile, Ruto asked residents not to discriminate against alcohol addicts who are being rehabilitated.

He said the addicts need to be accepted back to the society without conditions.

The deputy governor urged alcohol addicts to seek help and stop suffering in denial as the crackdown on illicit brews and second hand generation alcoholic drinks continues across Nakuru.
