The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (Kara) has partnered with Safaricom to organise Residents Dialogue Forums to provide platforms for direct engagement on discussions around sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). The goal of the forums is for stakeholders both from the private sector, civil society, government, and development partners to understand and support the ongoing initiatives on implementation of SDG 11 with specific reference to the New Urban Agenda (NUA).In October 2016, world leaders adopted the New Urban Agenda (NUA) which provides guidance for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).This is a roadmap for building cities that can serve as engines of prosperity and centers of cultural and social well-being while protecting the environment."Successful implementation of NUA will require collective action and building of synergy among various stakeholders - both state and non-state actors," said Kara.In a communication, Kara programmes officer Nancy Kariuki indicated the 1st Residents Dialogue Forum about the same would be held on September 14, 2017 at a Nairobi Hotel. The theme of discussion would be "Opportunities for effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Kenya" with Speakers at the forum being Steve Okeyo, Director, Sales and Regional Operations, Arch Aidah Munano, Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development, UN Habitat Representative among others.
