Speaking in Gatundu on Wednesday, Kariuki told the residents that if Kikuyu community supports CS Wamalwa’s bid for the city governor's seat, then members of the Luhya community in Western Kenya would return the favour and vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s polls.

Kariuki said he supports Wamalwa over mother as he wants to see President Kenyatta clinch a second term with over 70 percent of the votes that would be cast across the country. Arguing that the western bloc would play a vital role in ensuring that Kenyatta is re-elected with a super majority.

“Although my own mother Bishop Margaret Wanjiru still remain a contender for governor of Nairobi County, she acknowledges Nairobi is a cosmopolitan area which should not be governed by members of one community, " said Kariuki.

The Mathare legislator also added that even if Kikuyu community enjoys tyranny of numbers in the city, the community will support CS Wamalwa for the top county seat.

"We shouldn’t thump our chests, saying ‘Nairobi is ours’. We are ready to work with CS Eugene Wamalwa or any other politician who will vie for Nairobi governor on Jubilee ticket,” added Kariuki.
