Kirinyaga Gubernatorial hopeful Martha Karua has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to pass the two-thirds gender Bill once they resume sittings on Tuesday (today).

Karua says that the Bill is critical as the country heads to the August as it will ensure equality in public appointments

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Karua said that delay in passing the Bill has worked against women.

She said that the constitution agitates for fairness and equality in public appointments.

“My appeal is to MPs to urgently pass the two-thirds gender Bill once they resume sittings today,” she said during the interview on Citizen TV.

Karua said that the country will achieve its development agenda if women are well integrated into the leadership systems.

The two-thirds gender Bill flopped twice last year as it failed to get majority support with most male MPs voting against the Bill.

The Bill also flopped in the Senate with women MPs accusing their male counterparts of being non-committal on passing the Bill.

Last month President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered National Assembly leader of Majority Aden Duale to make sure that the Bill is passed before the August 8 polls.

Uhuru said that the Bill is crucial and must be passed to ensure equality in public appointments as provided for in the constitution.

Last week Duale said that the Bill will be re-introduced in parliament once the House resumes sitting on Tuesday (today).
