Narc Kenya chairperson Martha Karua has said she will not allow anybody to force to declare who she will vote for in the 2017 elections.
Karua who was hosted on Citizen TV's Cheche show said she had the right to keep the person she will vote for a secret saying it will be a sign of violating the spirit of democracy.
"You want me to come here and tell you the person I will vote for?" Karua asked.
“I think it is not fair to ask me which presidential candidate I will back, we should have a culture of respecting the secret ballot,” added the 2013 presidential aspirant.
The former Gichugu MP said she will not be forced to declare her support for any presidential candidate since it will go against the stance of Narc Kenya as a party in the 2017 election.
"I refuse to be boxed into saying the person I will vote for," she said.
"I am the chairperson of a party with members currently in 30 counties in Kenya. We allowed our branches to make decisions. I will not make a pronouncement that will not be in line with the members who are not from Kirinyaga County branch," she said.
Her remarks follow claims that she had declared support for President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year's elections saying it was the decision of the Narc-K Kirinyaga County branch which has decided to throw their weight behind Uhuru's presidency.
