Narc Kenya Party leader and Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful Martha Karua has cautioned Opposition alliance NASA against the outfit's plan to set up a parallel tallying centre during the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday in Mwea, the 2013 Presidential candidate said IEBC was the only legally recognised body to tally and announce election results, terming the Opposition's plan as "illegal."
“I want to tell my friends from NASA that only IEBC is supposed to announce election results. If aspirants will start to announce their own victory at the expense of the right results, this might brew post-election violence,” she noted.
IEBC has since met the Opposition over the matter, with the electoral body giving NASA the greenlight to set up a parallel tallying centre to monitor the polls.
"Parties and media may tally and verify the results for their own internal use," IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati noted during a press briefing on Thursday.
The former Gichugu MP who recently endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta for reelection during the August polls further expressed hope that she would win the Kirinyaga County top seat.
