A fierce political battle is looming in Kirinyaga County following reports that Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua will announce her gubernatorial bid in two weeks time.
Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who joined the Jubilee Party, will also be vying for the seat come 2017 general election.
Both Karua and Waiguru hail from Gichugu constituency.
Karua is said to have met Senator Daniel Karaba and Businessman Kibuga Githigi at her Kimunye home and is convinced to run for the county’s top job, according to the Star.
Senator Karaba declined to comment on the reports, but said Karua has the right to vie for any political seat.
The Narc Kenya leader unsuccessfully vied for presidency in 2013 general election.
Governor Joseph Ndathi, Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari and businessman Muriithi Kagai are also expected to contest for the seat.
