Residents of Karuga Location , Murindant Ward , Gilgil sub-county are now living in fear after several attacks to their sheep by a leopard.

The residents say that the leopard has caused great losses to sheep farmers .

“ I've lost 7 sheep in a single night attack by the leopard”, said James Mwangi ,adding “ hardly a day passes without our sheep being attacked”.

Mwangi said that the losses of his sheep has brought his purchasing power to the knees.

“ What I had for income has been drained to waste .Getting school fees will be a burden to me”, said Mwangi.

Confirming the attack today ,Karuga chief Amos Maina said that the provincial administration is working with Kenya Wild Life Services (KWS) to arrest the situation .

“ We are working with KWS to capture the leopard to avoid more losses”, said Maina.

Maina however urged the angry farmers not to take law in their hands and kill the leopard.

“ Killing the leopard is an offense liable to take one behind the bars”, said the chief.

Maina urged those who have been affected by the situation to lodge claims with KWS to get compensation.

“ Those farmers who have lost sheep through the leopard attacks should visit KWS offices and fill forms to get compensation”, said Maina.

The administrator further urged farmers to build better sheds to keep animals from attacking their livestock.
