Kiambu senatorial hopeful Karungo Thang’wa has refuted claims that he has ‘chickened’ out of the senatorial race in favor of incumbent Kimani Wamatangi.

Karungo says those claims circulating some media outlets are fake, stating that he is in the race to stay.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, the Ngewa MCA said that he has no intention of quitting the senatorial race, stating that he is ready to battle it out with Wamatangi on August 8th.

The MCA claimed that there have been forces compelling him to shelve his senatorial bid.

Karungo stated that he will not go against the wish of locals who he claimed want him to be their next senator.

“I want to assure my supporters that I am in the senatorial race and I will not bow to any pressure or be forced to quit the race,” he said during the interview.

Karungo said that his focus is to fight for the interests of the people if elected.

The Ngewa MCA claimed that Kiambu people have not been fully represented in the senate by the incumbent.

He is eyeing the senatorial seat as an independent candidate.

Karungo lost the Jubilee Party (JP) ticket to Kimani Wamatangi who is seeking re-election.

Kiambu governor hopeful Ferdinand Waititu has been quoted asking the Ngewa MCA to shelve his senatorial bid and support Wamatangi.

The Kiambu governor hopeful said that he will not campaign for any independent candidate.
