Scores of aspirants have declared interest to vie for Kiambu senatorial seat in the forthcoming August 8 General Election.
The latest entrant in the race to unseat the incumbent, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, is Ngewa Ward MCA Karungo Thang'wa.
While announcing his intention to run for the seat, the outspoken MCA said most of the lawmakers in the Senate have failed their counties by not protecting their interests, which is their mandate.
"The promise of devolution is about to die because some senators choose to remain silent when allegations of corruption arise in their counties and this is what has pushed me to join the race," he said.
Thang'wa, a former radio presenter, said Kiambu residents have requested him to represent them in the Upper House because currently they have an 'absentee Senator'.
The MCA said he will be launching his campaign after the process of mass voter registration is over.
Thang'wa said will be seeking to vie for the seat under President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party. Others who have also joined the race include former MPs George Nyanja (Limuru), Stephen Ndichu (Juja), businessman John Njoroge among others.
