Mombasa County Director of Communication Richard Chacha has termed Deputy Governor Hazel Katana's defection to Jubilee Party as a relief to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.
Speaking during an interview with The Star on Saturday, Chacha said ODM was only focused on winning the elections both at the national and county levels and was not interested in any sideshow.
"We are not interested in sideshows. We are focused on winning the August 8 elections both in the county and national level," he said.
Katana formally announced her defection from ODM on Saturday in a ceremony held at Lohar Hall, Mombasa, where she also launched her senatorial bid.
She accused ODM Party officials of sidelining her, and hit out at Governor Hassan Joho, saying he was incompetent and does not deserve another term in office.
Katana was received by Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh and nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi.
