Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana’s supporters have threatened to hold nude protests.
The women raised concern over alleged continued harassment of Katana after she parted ways with Governor Hassan Joho and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee side.Addressing journalists on Friday after staging protests at Uhuru Gardens, the women accused top county officials of intimidating and harassing Katana. This comes a day after the Deputy Governor was accused of attempting to steal furniture from her office, located at Treasury Square. Her supporters have called upon male leaders in the county to respect their female counterparts."We will strip naked and demonstrate in the streets if the deputy governor is disrespected and demeaned again. Let it be the last time. She is not alone. We are with her," said Ms Fatuma Atemi, as quoted by the Nation. On her part, Aisha Mwidani, accused county officials of removing the furniture from Katana’s office with the aim of implicating her of theft. "We have boycotted Friday prayers and we have asked God for forgiveness because of the humiliation Ms Katana endures. She is really suffering," Ms Mwidani said.
