Katiba Institute wants parties that fail to comply with the rule, barred from participating in the August 8, elections.

According to the organisation's Executive Director Waikwa Nyoike, they wrote to the IEBC in December 2016, requesting to know if it intended to ensure political parties abide by the two-thirds gender principle.

"The IEBC refused to provide us with that information. Our case raises weighty issues. The objective of this case will be rendered nugatory if this matter is not heard on a priority basis. We want to ensure nominations for constituencies and counties elective posts adhere to the two-thirds gender principle,'' he said.
