Former Likoni MP Suleiman Shakombo’s fight to recapture the seat from Masoud Mwahima during the August polls has received a major boost after a section of Mijikenda elders threw their weight behind him.
Shakombo, who has vowed to work closely with Nyali MP Hezron Awiti, has accused Mwahima of failing to keep his pre-election pledges.
He said the journey to free Likoni from poor governance started a long time ago and he is the right man to dock the ship safely at the port during the upcoming general election.
Speaking after meeting elders from Bofu ward in Likoni, Shakombo said his collaboration with Awiti will restore the lost glory of the region once he is given the mandate to replace Mwahima.
Awiti, who had also attended the meeting, assured the elders that he will unite communities in Mombasa ahead of the elections.
"I am going to work closely with various communities to ensure unity and victory in the elections," he said, as quoted by the Standard.
Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko has also declared interest in the Likoni seat.
